Don’t Be Afraid to Be Seen Trying – Podcast Setup Secrets

Dan and Tom start before they are ready: limited preparation, basic equipment and no guarantee that the project will become polished. That becomes the subject of the episode itself.

They discuss the fear of being observed at the beginning, why consistency creates quality and how unfinished attempts generate stories, skills and opportunities that private perfectionism cannot.

The useful bits

What to take with you

  • You need enough equipment to make the next episode, not the imagined hundredth one.
  • Being seen as a beginner is the price of acquiring visible experience.
  • Consistency creates the repetitions through which quality can improve.
  • Publish, review and evolve the format instead of trying to predict its final form.

Dan0:00

I'm just saying just before just before I tap record I was like I need to find my notes and someone's like notes it's only one sentence this is this is as much preparation that I've done it is because yeah yeah yeah don't have awkward pauses for the first time ever I think this project I would call it a project or this like execution of of work or whatever is really encouraging and inspiring which is making me want to do.

Tom0:29

Like more of it right than than what I technically have have done before so I think anytime you start a project and if you get inspired by um like more ideas and stuff and you want to do more episodes but I'm like no no no let's just find the consistency of one a week now obviously you'll notice that this has turned up a little bit later than usual because I was flying back from Bali um which is like 24 hours of traveling I.

Dan0:55

Think all along because there was some delays but my my sentence that I wanted to start with is um I think I saw this on Twitter or I think chemistor on Twitter or something like that don't be afraid to be seen trying so don't be afraid to be seen trying now this this is that Tom and I are trying whether or not we're succeeding or failing vote down below but we're trying to put a podcast together and what I wanted to kind of share is.

Tom1:27

Basically like why like what what is this like how have we done this how are we doing this um so maybe Tom you can tell people like what's our setup like how are we doing this how could someone else do exactly what we're doing what what do you need to know to start a podcast because literally there's nothing to it right really no no so what's our setup our setup is using Riverside I don't know why I'm explaining it because I didn't do any.

Dan1:57

Research on this it was a test to know right we're doing Riverside so what what we've used in the past I know Dances at the moment is a laptop but you can get iOS or Android devices so I'm trialling the iPad right now device um as you can see because it'll hopefully follow me with Center Stage a little bit more than normal interestingly it does a little bit when you move to the when you move to that side but not when you move to the other.

Tom2:23

Side so when you move that way it does follow you but it doesn't follow you oh now it kind of does but it doesn't get you in this one it's because the camera you can only move to your left the cameras on this side so all right you can only only like pivot off to the lack basically so also it's all right in the in the small visual you'll actually disappear and come back in So for those people.

Dan2:50

Listening Tom is moving his head left to right out of the shot and back into the shot hoping that the camera will um kind of Auto Center him which is not actually quite getting it quick enough yeah because it's like a cut off um it's kind of like a crop a certain box isn't it probably more than that yeah but it is but yeah so so basically yeah so right now we're using them quickly yeah what about what about mics and.

Tom3:17

Stuff so right now I'm just using iPhone headphones because I find that iPhone headphones work well the microphone on an iPhone headphone would be fine but I've bought and this is only like you don't need to buy any of this stuff you could literally install the app or have it in a browser so you yes of course you need an internet connection and a laptop or a computer that has a webcam and then I have bought I think this was 70 quid.

Dan3:39

Was this 70 quid or 90 quid no the mic this sure sm7 I think it is or something like that you can buy it from Tom and t h o m a double n dot d e um and it's straight micro USB to USBC um because I happen to have a USBC Mac on it and it's there's no audio interface which is great so I'm like you can have such a minimal setup right and it works it works quite well yeah.

Tom4:12

Because today I don't I've only had phones on mic but usually I am using airpod Pros for my ears and then like lapel mic or whatever which is literally plugged in Via 3.5 millimeter Jack or with an adapter to plug into the to the laptop or phone depending on what I'm using and that is like 15 pounds cheapness off Amazon but right now I'm using that I saw you need is a half decent room say that not echoing too.

Dan4:43

Much yeah and even content-wise right so content wise of starting something as you saw at the very beginning of all this setup Tom and I were like hey let's just record us chatting and as you've seen over the past like five episodes sometimes it's us just sharing stories sometimes it's more interviewy and I think for me I've tried to find some sort of content creation process that's like really easy to manage so the way you do that is rather than like create.

Tom5:09

Something you document something um and interview styles are really really good right because you can go backwards and forwards so even if you don't want to do a solo piece you can interview people and I have tried interviewing people but even the logistics of trying to arrange to interview people is long and hard so the best thing is like Tom Tom and I work together like basically you and I are in the best situation to just record it.

Dan5:37

Because you're flexible and I'm flexible so it's like if anybody out there is like wanting to do something like this there's nothing much there isn't any like special recipe there isn't no it's just about like doing it right and not being afraid to be seen doing this stuff um and I think one thing for me is trying to find the consistency I know we've missed our Tuesday but when I we record it on a Tuesday and develop it.

Tom6:05

Yeah and release it on a Wednesday morning and I'm literally just trying to focus on consistency um and the the quality over time is in like we'll get better we will be more interesting hopefully we'll be funnier we'll be better looking you know over time things importantly all of those deteriorate well hopefully there'll be some AI camera that like slowly starts skin smoothening so you don't see any like extra AI stuff I was watching a program on this is going to be a fun conversation.

Dan6:40

Because I don't remember the program man it's on it was on BBC and it's drama and it's basically how a government um like official goes on on like live TV and explains how he disagrees with the company and basically the company is an AI tech company um and they basically take the live stream edit it and then reproduce it so it's like I love the company and everything is all for doing and because everyone is watching it through the TV.

Tom7:12

Everyone thinks he said that but only him and the interviewee that was in the room of them talking realized he didn't say that so it's one of those things that what is truth so he had to get fired for something because it's on live TV and only one other person can say he didn't say that thing so interesting wait is it this is a real thing on a second I dropped out the camera because basically I so I'm on a wheelie.

Dan7:39

I'm on a wheelie desk and I've I'm slowly as you can see the sun is coming into my eyes I'm literally trying to back up into the corner but I can't back up too much because my drum Kit's right behind me and these plants behind me and I was also literally pulling it out the plug so I was having this catastrophe of like my battery's gonna die is it gonna die is it not gonna die while you're telling them to start the story so let's.

Tom7:58

Recap my problem is over even though the Sun keeps on moving around as it should do naturally what would be pure interesting is what is your recap from through your Terror trying to figure out what I said just to make your mind yeah so basically yeah that that's that's a good way of putting it so basically what happened while I was fidgeting and moving around like a crazy person trying to like stop the Sun from glaring me in.

Dan8:20

My eyes is there was an interview of uh like let's say like a newscast of something someone being interviewed about an AI company that they work for and that person being interviewed basically said how awful that company was because they didn't agree with what it was and the interviewee um the person interviewing that person uh heard all of that information but in the intake of the video feed there was an AI algorithm that was basically live um live adapting what he was saying which.

Tom8:52

Then made everything that he said positive and happy about the company which then got broadcast out so then they fired him um and basically the only person that would say um what he said was was true was the person interviewing them because everybody else that saw the video was you know this like honey glazed version because it was an AI driven version hey smashed it the only part was a plus it was real people it was real it was.

Dan9:20

Very much like a Black Mirror episode right I'm not seeing that episode to my recollection oh sorry not that as in like it sounds like something that would be a Black Mirror episode yes which I which I think is true I think um going back to last week when I said like public humiliation right just imagine that you were adapted to say the uh the reverse right in the sense of I love you know product a and it adapted it to say I hate product a.

Tom9:49

And I hate this group of people and I hate this you know all this like controversial stuff that it would end up saying um they actually did a AI podcast uh they they generated a podcast between um who's that who's that bald head guy on Spotify that Joe Rogan I always have to say the curry because it reminds me Rogan Josh it's also the same like Joe Rogue and Joe Rogan what's it yeah it is Joe Rogan yeah Joe Rogan and.

Um I'm just gonna this is kind of like Pictionary but I'm being really bad the guy that created Apple with the turtlenecks wow what's his name oh no yeah yeah Steve Jobs so Rogan Josh and Josh Steves I just say them reverse I'm just pretending that I'm jet-lagged so Rogan Josh no wrote uh Joe Rogan and um Steve Jobs basically interviewed like have a conversation and get interviewed with each other but they actually didn't have that interview in real life all it.

Was is a computer was fed all of Joe Rogan's podcasts and all of Steve Jobs speeches and his autobiography and stuff and they basically put it together in an AI generated podcast where they're interviewing each other but it didn't actually happen and the voices are the voices of those individuals because we have so much information about those people they've said lots of words and stuff and I assume that it wouldn't take much to like programmatically create a voice in the same way that all I need is.

Like three sides of your face to create a fake kind of AI version of like Tom Ryland saying that you know he actually hates Liverpool he doesn't love Liverpool you know like that's all you need because chances are you've said certain words that we can amalgamate into some sentence but so this was a TV show then TV show yeah drama on BBC what was it called I can't remember that's why I said it would be interesting but that is it's funny.

Yeah it's um yeah go and watch everything on BBC and then come back and tell us what it was I find that sometimes um analogies and stories you need to say them with such conviction uh that it gets the point across without allowing your own kind of like forgetfulness to get in the way if that makes sense so and I found that fascinating are we creating content ready for some AI to munch it up and reproduce better content.

To push us out of the market that we're trying to push ourselves into yeah just imagine what we're doing if they steal our voice Well we'd have to like copyright our voice or something like copyright our likeness and our voice because isn't there some celebrity I isn't it um again I'm gonna say this the analogy of the story the voice of Darth Vader and The Lion King yeah uh Earl Ray Jones what's that guy's name seminar anyway Darth Vader's voice.

He's sold his voice or the right to his voice to be able to be used in future films or something like that and I think that's going to be the future as in like celebs we'll be able to do a Futurama type you know head in a glass jar thing where they can sell their likeness and their voice to then be reproduced uh for anything and everything because I can deep fake a podcast I could deeper fake video so.

Why not you know a positive example of that would be utilizing it in a film so long as the um family of said celebrity if they happen to pass away can like re get the um royalties of that because royalties as a concept exists anyway because music royalties right let's say for example Michael Jackson's kids are making money off Michael Jackson's music because it's just royalties being fed then to the children of that person that's deceased so royalties exists so what happens you.

Just slap it together where does royalties last if you don't have kids do you know it it would go to your like um estate right whatever your estate is so if it's a limited company or if it's a trust or something and chances are in your will you would have had something to say like hey this should go into a trust and this trust would go and do you know charitable work or or whatever right yeah so I think it would basically.

Go somewhere because you've told it to go somewhere um I I assume so interesting but but you know what we would end up doing is we'd end up writing a sentence to say literally if I wrote the sentence don't be afraid to be seen trying then it would generate a 30-minute chat of me and you sharing stories and analogies of like what that means and it would be like funny and all the rest of it like and it.

Would be both of us in the video and of course and we wouldn't have done a freaking thing except for written a sentence and then waited two hours for it to produce this AI version of a chat so I think from a create a creation perspective it means like you have no excuse because an AI could even do the video or do the recording of you so long as you've edit enough ideas um in the same way that's why I want to.

Start like um so there's not comic books and stuff does that help creation or not because if you're Outsourcing I guess writing a script if someone prefers to have a script when they do podcasts and actually doing the podcast you're sort of pulling away from jobs so what would be the the point of humanity a hundred percent right I think that happens with every Genera every like generational like shift or a culture shift of some sort because you've had.

Um the kind of the the um like broadly speaking you've had many shifts over time and there's always this displacement of people where they have to retrain for example like when we first started using machinery there would have been a shift of like okay let's take mining for example that person down in the mind doesn't have to be you know with his pickaxe picking up the rock face to get out some coal because now we have a machine so that.

Person either needs to be retrained as a mechanic a machine operator or needs to potentially shift into a different role which is like creating the Machinery that then you know drills in but think of that that's like one example of one person think of that as a like a global scale I think artists or creatives are being come after writers and copywriters are being come after um through through all these mechanisms and I think you just have to be.

Um you have to just still um nourish some sort of like Innovation right so if these tools exist what how can you utilize these tools like even coders code is a pattern it's a it's a something that can be described so even code as a being um like kind of dedup that out of a out of a system and really what I think is things are in one thread like computers are very good but computers are getting better at joining two things together.

Right it's getting better to do multiple things but broadly speaking is very good at one thing so if you can come up with something that kind of combines a few Technologies or a few ideas that's harder for a computer to to do um just off the bat um but it's getting better it's getting better at it so I I would say like comic books or the the creation of a story or the creation of a film all of that stuff is going to disappear.

So all you need to do is you still need to come up with a starting point so your starting point of come up with that sentence that describes the film you want the computer to create like that starting point still needs to happen from a human basically yeah that makes sense 30 interesting so what was your sentence of your notes I've already forgotten don't be afraid to be seen trying I think a lot of the time people don't.

Try stuff or I'll say it from my perspective sometimes or back in the day I wouldn't try something because the initial thought is what if I fail and other people see me fail therefore you do not try it or there's a reluctancy to try it for example starting a business why would you start a business um if if there's this like fear of if I fail or if the business doesn't go for five years or if it doesn't go for 10.

Years or if it doesn't go beyond my years then I'll be seen as a failure and people will think that I failed so I think there is a fear of opinions of others which then stops you from doing it yeah it is interesting because I spotted the slack uh messaging server work messaging service had a update recently and in the update it basically said just a couple of tweaks um but also it's good to look back at the past or something slack actually.

Used to be a games company or something random um obviously I don't know how true or untrue that that is but let's say it was true would they be classed as a failure now because they adapted to whatever worked for either the market or them and they're working but if the point was if the emphasis was a gaming company then they failed if the emphasis was just making their company out or making money and they started at gaming then.

They succeeded which yeah like pivoting yeah pivoting or moving with the times or like innovating are all good characteristics to do and I agree you need to recognize that the goal posts are probably going to move and that's okay and not be held down by the definition of what you started with for example if you started a business let's say take us right let's say day one we start a business building websites now if in year two um something changes and actually we're.

Not just building websites we're now building um products like our own products and that's great because it's like you want to keep moving the goal posts and enhancing because I think in trying stuff you realize what you like what you don't like and it's okay to change like for me I thought when I started a business for some reason I always wanted us to have an agency I never knew how big that agency would be but then when I've done it I've.

Realized I should have a big agency it's not for me I'm not that bothered about the big agency stuff I want like you know it's more so about the the impact of the agency or something so it's not a 30 person agency and I know some people would say oh the impact of the agency is going to grow larger with 30 people but actually it's not necessarily as in the profits when you're small or higher therefore you can utilize more of those.

Then when you grow larger your profits decrease and then at some point there's a break again where it comes back up for the like the volume of it so there is some level of that and for me right now smaller more manageable the whole like micro startup stuff of micro products and not having a big team and all that stuff feels better to me because sometimes you build something big and then it collapses and it doesn't make sense because I always think back to.

Arcadia right you know the shopping the people that owned top top man and well it's a that was massive and it folded and I wonder whether or not if it was slightly smaller would it have kept going I obviously I don't know but sometimes building things in a large way isn't always it's guaranteed gonna last last longer but of course we do need um to create certain companies that hire 500 people for example right because otherwise what are those people going to.

Do and in my case I'd be like well maybe we just have 500 companies and all those 500 people do interesting things that they want to do rather than saying one company and hire 500 people and hope that that company never goes bust but yeah that's just my personal thing we need we need a balance of both nothing too large that it collapses and destroys a bunch of people's livelihoods because of the dependency on that big Empire but.

I also don't think that it it necessarily means that everybody has to be a business and if they don't want to be a business owner yeah it's balanced so how did you come up with your sentence when did that pop I think like I said I think I've been encouraged by the fact that hey we're just going to plot along and do these episodes and just share stuff that is on our mind and I think it comes back to I want to like visualize more.

And like think imagine more like try and imagine stuff and visualize visually in your brain like scenarios and like like visualize yourself doing a speech doing a talk at that event or whatever like try and do that stuff to kind of like stop thinking in reality of like what you see like try and go into a space of like things that haven't happened yet like you know if if you don't have that nice car yet like think about you know.

Doing a test drive in that nice car or you know it doesn't even need to necessarily be a materialistic thing it might be you know think about that person that you're speaking to that you'd like to speak to or I I don't know it's just um like Blue Sky Thinking and I think um these sentences come because I'm trying to think of good things good topics to talk about that might Inspire somebody um and I'm always trying to think about.

Who might be listening to this or who might be watching this could they be a person that would love to do something like this but like they just need five percent encouragement to get them over the line and actually do it and that five percent that they're lacking might be just because they think that this is like way more complex um than actually what it actually is you know they might think that we've got this massive team of people they might.

Think that you know we're using this paid application or you know like oh the mics are 100 pounds you know don't have any of that stuff so I'm like let's bring the bar super super low and I think to add to that and encourage people which I forgot to add earlier is we're not even doing everything that we probably want to do so what I mean by that is we're not cutting them into smaller pieces and then posting them on all the different.

Social media sites so there's like short-term content of I don't know five to thirty seconds and there's a one to two minutes which we could do which is probably on our hearts but again I think it's looking where we're at and looking at where we can push the product and how much energy that we've got that actually we have to bring ourselves in during this time it's the sustainability of any project that you do right I think the.

Sustainable form of this is I know I can commit to chatting to you for 30 minutes a week and that's a pretty decent Commitment if I can do that for a year you'll have this bank this library of like quotable stuff this library of like funny stuff is library of like deep stuff this like library of stuff that over time people will be like looking back I'm like oh it's really interesting how they thought this then then it changed to be this you know 30.

Episodes later or or anything like that and yeah I think it's all about um you know play play like doing less rather than doing more you're right someone would advise us right now that we should be chopping this into 20 like 50 different things like every sentence that we do should be chopped into 50 segments and posted on Tick Tock YouTube shorts you know Instagram reels um so the podcast can grow and I'm like yeah or we could just enjoy doing it and.

And not and if people find it great if people don't find it that's fine because really the reason why I'm doing this and I it'd be cool to know what you the reason why you're doing this and not hopefully not because I force you to do it but the reason why I'm doing this is because I want some sort of small consistent output it's really easy to do that also um kind of like gets out some of these.

Um things that I've learned to like be able to share it with other people so other people can benefit the fact that I've spent hours reading this thing and then now I can just say it in two sentences um you know like why should I force that other person to read it those do those two hours or whatever of course they can but if I can give you just a head start here it is and there's a bunch of stuff.

That I don't know as well right yeah yeah why why would you say that well what's what's the main thing for you of doing this to do something different with with you because I know it's good fun doing design work or chatting to other people and this was just an opportunity that opened up that I know that my brain can overthink things of how do we make it super promoted or how do we my marketing brain and I think it's going into it.

Going this door's open but I'm not gonna Sprint as quick as I can I'm just gonna walk slowly and just see what happens um because the end of the day Perfection is the enemy right yeah Perfection is the enemy of progress and I think both you and I have aspects of perfectionism and it's really hard to fight against it um but you fight against it by basically focusing on like well I don't care about quality I care about the fact that I'm.

Doing it consistently every week like you focus on like a different skill if there's like you know you're trying to build up your skilled you focus on skill number two rather than skill number one which is perfectionism because it doesn't like increase your output yeah really and I think it's when doors open of opportunity for you to do something different you tend to explore your expertise so it's make us come across this and how that's designed how that looks.

How that feels obviously it makes you look into the camera front facing or back facing if it's an iPad or front-facing with laptops um or the sound quality so it makes you dive into areas that either you've doubled in the past or you're not doing anything at the moment about it that's exploring how do you record something how do you make it sound good what yeah off-putting or what isn't so it's sort of yeah it makes you think about different.

Realms I guess and different sectors um I I've also thought about I've only just started to think about um the people that like you guys that are listening and watching I've started to think about who you are we're not tracking you or watching you like who's that like those two views you know that five views those seven views like who are those people and how do we communicate in the best way to make them feel like from whatever.

Level they do feel to like one notch Two Notch three notches higher than whatever level that they're feeling at I and I think it's fascinating because if you take the concept of for example take the concept of preaching or church or whatever right or doing any sort of speech or talk you're wanting to enact some sort of Behavioral change um which could be um increasing motivation or increasing um optimism or whatever you want to like or you know to use less plastic or whatever.

That action um whether or not it's like a doing thing or an emotional thing so how do I do that what is the way to do that so I think in doing a podcast it kind of brings this like accountability or this like yeah you've got to be like a good communicator how do you want to do this stuff and I'm not talking about manipulation I'm talking about how do you be a really good communicator to help somebody.

That that's literally it you know to make someone feel better yeah in whatever you know small or big um or to inspire that person yeah maybe to just keep on doing what they're doing might it might be not like I'm asking you to you know stop something it might be you know keep doing what you're doing or it might be to start something new yeah breaking news I've found it I don't actually oh the captain just the capture yeah yeah it was only it was.

Season two that I watched apparently season one isn't as good so I just jumped in at season two which says all right so BBC iPlayer the cat the capture series two seasons and then there's only six episodes which we watched for and it was very interesting particularly in this sort of AI World obviously some of it's fake but it's interesting of if tech went in that direction what it would look like the sort of Black Mirror aspect to it.

Yeah going back to the question you said before as well another thing I find is like with the whole like yeah there's loads more that we could do in the sense of uh the Polish but I also think sometimes when we finish them I'm like oh but I could have said this or like there's this story that would have added really well to that and I'm finding that fascinating again it all comes down to being a good communicator and.

Communicating the core idea the core concept and the extra like other stuff you just have to believe that in the 35 minutes or the 40 minutes or whatever we end up doing like that in itself was sufficient and there'll be multiple occasions to do more efficiencies and over time that message will come across because you'll do some episode seven or episode nine where you'll see that story or a different version of the story because actually the fact that you.

Didn't say it you've improved it because some other examples come to your mind and you've said it in a better way in episode nine or whatever yeah because you do you find that with because you're very like good with analogies and stuff how do you find you know that feeling that I should have said this you know I think I used to struggle with that a lot more when I was younger I think it's more of a I go into.

Freeze mode that is like oh should I share this or not I think as I've got older I've sort of gone a bit more if it pops up it might be the right time but I hold it way more lighter that if I didn't feel like it's the right time even though it has popped up that if it comes up again I can share it and I've got that more conviction or confidence and sharing it but if it never comes up.

Again I've got a choice to force it into a conversation or just to let it fall to the floor and then it might get picked up in 10 20 years time or maybe a different person or different topic that I talk on so I try and hold things like a like a button to some extent that you might pass it onto other people but you might equally drop unless it's okay there's no more success by handing over more buttons because at the end of the.

Day you could pass it to someone pass a good analogy but at the wrong timing and then they might perceive it wrong and then it might put them into guilt or shame or fear or whatever that's that's not worth the analogy that you were trying to um say at the end of the day because you put someone in turmoil or difficulty that they might be dealing with a past issue that's popping up now um even your analogy might be correct it.

Might just the timing might be incorrect at that moment in time and this is why like being a good communicator is such a broad thing but really a part of being a good communicator is really being like perceptive to what's actually going on and not communicating for the sake of communicating I think for me like when an episode finishes I'm like oh that was really good and like actually I should think about this next time or like oh we.

Should talk about this subject because actually this subject about like you know creativity and how are you creative and maybe that's inspiring just if we just talk about that like and I think for me I'm utilizing the I I will call it missed opportunity but it's not a missed opportunity but utilizing that energy to like keep me going for the next episode even if next episode we don't talk about that thing that was missed as in like even if Episode the.

Next episode is not about creativity like that's fine it's just like slightly oh storing in yeah yeah literally the Overflow of stories and analogy in this like wanting to share to and communicate to help people utilizing that energy yeah it doesn't make it into episode five or six in our case but it will like spur you on and encourage you to do episode seven whatever episode seven ends up being yeah that is interesting so it is very interesting.

But yeah I was just and on that I was just thinking imagine if you just dropped in a random sentence even like a white lie about random people that you might think that are listening yeah that was my random thought of the day okay let's let's go with this I what I find interesting is actually um what you'll find in the same way that we'll find as well you won't necessarily get public um recognition for what you do.

But privately someone might mention something because they have been watching in the sense of like um for example a real life example of that is you'll do a bunch of videos a bunch of social videos no one will comment on it but that one time you meet that friend they'll say oh I really like the fact when you said that thing about you know the Hammer with the doorstop thing that was really funny and you'd be like but why didn't you.

Comment you know or whatever it is right like I think life is much more about the the subtleties of influence um and kind of persisting beyond the need of the validation and just trusting that if this is good people hear the good parts and if it's bad people don't hear those parts yeah you know and they'll come back at some other point you know they'll drop it for a bit maybe come back and then that one episode randomly hits on the point yeah.

There's something that's happening in their work or in their family life or in their relationships like the same with podcasts but TV program always always sunny on Philadelphia or whatever I remember uh my best friend Derry mentioned it to me probably back when I was uni this is like seven eight years or whatever and he said this program's really funny but I think I watched a random one out of the blue and I was like that didn't really hit home because I didn't you.

Don't understand the context you don't understand whether the the characters have come from or going to so it didn't really hit home at all but then later down the line I remember him bringing it up again I'm going oh it's so funny I really go back and watch it and it must have been on Netflix or something that was more accessible like post the DVD world so then I thought okay then I'm just gonna watch in the background so I'm not pulling my full.

Attention onto it I'll watch it in the background whilst doing I thought I must have been essays or maybe past uni must work and then you slowly buy into it and then now it's like well I've watched everything and then actually I've rewatched it and now they've started podcasts that comes out every Monday morning so I've started listening to that and then you tend to share it share it with you share it at the brother Tony and I think it is that the good thing is.

With content is you might not necessarily understand it it's like kids might not understand the Family Guy but when you're a student it's probably the funniest thing ever but then you might forget about it and then you're you're back into it maybe in your 20s or 30s and then you'd re-watch it and listen to it and then understand it's like panto you sort of understand things that In a Different Light later on in life and it all comes down to a group of.

People or an individual or a couple of people committing to consistency and uh like a volume a certain volume or a um like a season or series of stuff I remember when you um when you shared about um all the Sunny in Philadelphia you said that it's basically like uh I think it's because you heard an interview it's if friends happened but like all the worst things happened uh they they basically were the worst of people so the friends as you know it now.

The great people that they are just think of the absolute opposite people that is now what Always Sunny in Philadelphia is they're just horrible people getting together doing awful stuff that's what this is about and and just sharing the story of of that and the journey of that which I think was really fun yeah yeah I hate that in an interview and it was it's one of those things that I like I enjoy friends but if someone says.

Think about most opposite thing you sort of go or you think oh would that be bad because I know friends is good but no it's bad people but even that is funny in a completely different way because you know none of that content would necessarily be on friends like there's one scene that the two characters started beating up kids because those kids stole their bikes and it's just like unless you watch the whole journey and watch that program.

It's really hard jumping into that going this is a strange program two adults beating up kids and it's very um that program is way more easier pulled out of context than maybe friends is that you're there for the a more emotional journey of when someone gets together or someone gets married you can buy into it dead easy but I think we're so excited Philadelphia it's like you need to know a little bit context that they're the worst the worst and they're.

Not they they might not even trying to be good people they're just trying to make a profit or trying to like so then it justifies their actions a bit more that you know it's not reality so so you can laugh along with it a lot more and with all those things they all started with low numbers you know like they started with not that much of a following and just kicked it off and I think what they found interesting is their fans are.

Really really young because they've been introduced to it at some point and they've started to binge watch it all so they're not necessarily the age group um that would have watched it when it first came out and followed it through they're much much younger because they've come been introduced to it at a different point and also can binge it because that's the beauty of like on-demand stuff you know yeah and that's something like you know I'm getting I'm getting glare from two.

Places so the window out here the sun is happening and then there's a mirror here which is basically burning my redness I literally can't move because the both of the two sides well I burn more than anything else my wife my my wife kimma says um I'm called moon burn because I'll burn even if the moon is out no no that's what we'll end up having on t-shirts and don't be calling me Moon burning okay so this is if you've actually watched the.

41 minutes surely moon burn isn't that what movie that's the joke is it moon burn just a wedgie like your Mooney getting burnt laughs no appreciate that it's not it's well yeah yeah debate what do you think moonburn is being burnt sunburned by the moon or having a wedgie or something else yeah or insert your own answer and on that note keep on hammering those Nails bye for now.
